My name is Mandy O’Reilly and I am the Hauora teacher of Room Kiwi, which is made up of Year 6 students. I am excited about building positive relationships with the children in my class and their families, and working with them to achieve their full potential.

In Team Tuakana, students strive to gain the knowledge, skills and attitudes to be lifelong learners in a local, national and global world. This is achieved through student led learning and student agency. Therefore, they take responsibility for their own learning outcomes and progress, all the while being scaffolded by the teacher. We are a digital based classroom. Students use a variety of tools to locate, create and share their learning and successes.

We all follow the AROHA values and expectations so students can take risks in a safe and supportive learning environment.

Being seniors in our school, students are encouraged to be role models and take on leadership roles. These include: Whanau House Leaders, PB4L leaders, and help with school duties such as Breakfast in Schools, organising school events and Fruit Monitors.

Hi My name is Charlotte Higgs and I am also a Hauora teacher of Room Kiwi.

In Kiwi class and across team Tuakana we are focusing on student agency and allowing students to take ownership and responsibility for their own learning. Student agency is crucial for being a lifelong learner, which is what I wish for every student to be.

With our journey into a collaborative learning environment across years 5-8, it allows students to work with multiple teachers to reach their full potential. I see the importance of incorporating digital technology and scaffolding my teaching to make it fun and interesting. Myself as a teacher also constantly learning from all those around me. I feel very privileged to be part of such a great team at Turaki and look forward to the jam packed year ahead of us.
